Rockingham County Welcomes New Commissioner Houston Barrow to Board of Supervisors

Houston Barrow begins his term as Rockingham County Commissioner.

Wentworth, NC ( January 11, 2023) –  Rockingham County Government would like to welcome Houston Barrow, the newest Commissioner to sit on the Board. Barrow’s first Board of Commissioners meeting was December 5th, 2022 following his election to the Board of Commissioners on November 8, 2022.

   After traveling the world, Houston Barrow came back to his hometown of Eden. He graduated from Rockingham Community College prior to attending Guilford Technical Community College where he graduated from the Dental Hygiene program. During this time, Houston and his wife, Kim, purchased their home. The two serve the public professionally: Houston in a local dental office and Kim a public-school teacher.

   “I’ve been around the world, 13 countries over 10 years’ time, and I wanted to come back. This truly is a great place.” Barrow stated about running for the office of County Commissioner, “I wanted to be involved in this community, my home community of Rockingham County. I am looking forward to serving the people here.”

   Houston Barrow plans to continue to put the health and safety of the County, including all emergency medical personnel, deputies and first responders, first. Barrow hopes to see the infrastructure of the county continue to grow as the county processes forward.

   “I am confident in Houston’s ability on this Board,” County Manager Lance Metzler said. “We’ve already worked together on a few projects. He has great leadership skills and will be an asset to Rockingham County.”
