It has been 100 days since Russia invaded Ukraine, bombarding cities and forcing thousands to flee the country. Putin and others initially thought the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv would fall within days – but it was a gross miscalculation. As the war rages on, Russia is reportedly throwing “all its reserves” at severodonetsk, a key city in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region. Ukrainian officials, though, say they’ve managed to fight back and recapture about 20 per cent of the strategic hub. One analyst told Global News the Russian president misjudged Ukraine and the West, as well as the capability of its own forces. And as Eric Sorensen reports, this is not where Russia hoped it would be at this point in the war.
