Hello, my name is Michael Swanson and I created this website WallStreetWindow.com about 15 years ago.  Today you can become a freelance local news writer for it.  We will pay you $20 for every article that you submit to us that we then publish.  Each article needs to be at least 300-600 words in length (400 is the average) and have an image submitted with it.  You can take a photo or use a free stock photo image.  We pay our writers once a week through Paypal.  If you are interested just read the rest of this post and click the link at the end to fill out the short application.

Once accepted you’ll become a member of our newsroom community, in which we run regular training sessions to help you get articles ideas and show you what is working the best.  You can often get all you need for a story by messaging people on Facebook or by just keeping an eye on local government websites, social media accounts, and Youtube channels.

This could be the perfect fit for you, if you are someone who is retired and looking to get paid, while doing something fun, or someone young just starting out, as this is a good way to build a resume and portfolio, sort of like a paid internship. Or you might be someone who already spends a lot of time everyday writing posts about events local to you on Facebook, while getting paid nothing from them for it.

Now you can.

WHY NOW?

This website has been around for over fifteen years and first started as a pure financial website.  Its articles are widely picked up and spread across the internet by other websites, search engines, social sharing, and through various news apps.  We are now making a shift into local news, as we see it as an opportunity for us, as a media outlet to grow our audience, and as way to provide people with a service they will benefit from with quality reporting.

In the past twenty years, corporate consolidation, which has resulted in the loss of thousands of journalism jobs, has created a situation today in which there are literally thousands of counties and towns across the United States with little to no local news coverage.  This creates a need and opportunity to fill that void where possible and to help keep local news vibrant and alive, which is critical to every community across the country.  In today’s age of social media and political partisanship, more and more once vibrant local news operations have been bought up or displaced by giant media conglomerates, many of which, whether they are of the “left” or the “right” are serving to only provoke people for clicks and drive people apart by presenting them with what is better described as propaganda than hard news.

The slogan for WallstreetWindow is Be In The Know – and we strive to give our readers and visitors hard information that can inform them and help them.

If you become a freelance local news contributor to this website, not only can you make some money, while being fully in control of your own time, but also do something positive in your own community and region.  A freedom job like this is attractive to many, but it is not for you, however, if you are interested in spreading propaganda or misinformation or being a political hack.  So many media outlets are actually shrinking, because their audience has slowly bled over the years and now has fled as their corporate buyers pushed them into carrying more and more hyperbolic national news headlines and stories to enrage social media for hits instead of real local stories designed to inform.  We are looking to provide a positive force to communities with objective information that can contribute to building more vibrant communities.

But I cannot do this all by myself.  Freelance writers help our website get more traffic with their articles, and in return our established presence on the internet helps them get their work out there to more people than they would otherwise.  It’s easier, as a freelancer, to work as a team and if you are interested in becoming a freelance contributor to this website all you have to do is complete two steps: read, understand, and then accept our terms for the contributions and then fill out a short application to be considered for our newsroom.  – Mike Swanson
