The United States is considering a ban on TikTok in the country amid concerns of China’s direct ties to the popular social media app. Across North America, the app is being banned on government-owned devices, but none have banned the app outright nationwide. Anne Gaviola is joined by The Peak daily podcast’s Jay Rosenthal to discuss whether a ban could happen or if a compromise could be found to allow the app stay without China’s direct influence. Then, the pair look at the ongoing banking system issues lingering across the globe. The most recent was the purchase of Credit Suisse, with the Swiss Central Bank saying “swift, decisive action” prevented a major financial crisis. But it raises the question what could be next. And Zellers is back after a decade-long absence in Canada and its pop-up shops reopened to much fanfare. Gaviola and Rosenthal talk about the nostalgia factor bringing people to the stores.
